Start freeHow to read your COD profit
In cash-on-delivery, the price on the invoice is not the money you keep. A refused parcel still costs you shipping — often both ways — and it drags your average profit down with every return. This calculator makes those hidden costs visible so you can price and choose couriers with real numbers instead of gut feeling.
What the calculator does
It computes your net profit on an average order, weighting for the orders that come back. Delivered orders earn revenue and bear the product and delivery cost; refused orders earn nothing but still cost a return fee (and returned goods re-enter your stock, so you don't lose the product itself). Ad spend and confirmation costs are paid on every order you generate, delivered or not.
The number that matters: break-even return rate
The break-even return rate is the point where your average order profit hits zero. Below it you make money; above it you lose money on every additional order. Knowing this single number tells you how much return-rate headroom a product has — and whether it's worth advertising at all.
How to lower the return rate you plug in
- Confirm every order before you ship it — this alone removes most fake and impulse orders.
- Route each city to the courier with the best delivery rate there, not the cheapest sticker fee.
- Ship faster; the longer a parcel is out, the more likely it's refused.
- Flag repeat-returners and require confirmation before re-shipping to them.
Re-run the calculator with a lower return rate to see exactly how many dirhams each of these moves is worth on your catalogue.
Frequently asked questions
How is COD net profit per order calculated?
Net profit per order = revenue from delivered orders − product cost on delivered orders − delivery fees on delivered orders − return fees on refused orders − ad and confirmation costs on every order. The calculator weights everything by your return rate to give an average per order.
What is a break-even return rate?
It's the return rate at which your average profit per order becomes zero. Below it you're profitable; above it every order loses money. It tells you how much headroom a product has before returns turn it into a loss.
Do returned products count as a full loss?
Usually no — refused goods come back and re-enter your stock, so you keep the product. What you lose on a return is the shipping: the return fee the courier charges, plus any ad or confirmation cost you already paid to generate that order.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no signup, and stores nothing. It's a free tool from getakid, the COD operations platform for Moroccan sellers.
